The “Great Man” theory of history is usually attributed to the Scottish philosopher Thomas Carlyle, who claimed that “the history of the world is but the biography of great men.” The lives and the ideas of these great men and women have led to important fields of study like Philosophy, Astronomy, History, Science and Economics.
This blog, which was created as a collaborative effort of students enrolled in English 101 at the George Mason University, contains information about the impact of such great men and women on their field of study. This information was published, in part, to help other college students explore the different subjects offered at the university by investigating individuals who have left an impact on these fields, and to help with future student research projects through the interactive links and websites provided on this blog.
